I just installed X3 Watch and cannot add my partners. After I type in the email address and hit enter, I get an error message that reads "Error checking for upgrade . . . make sure you have an active internet connection." Can anyone help me? Obviously, I have an internet connection because I had just downloaded the software.
I'm running a MacBook Air with Mac OSX 10.6.8
Thanks! -
ditto
-
I'm still having the same problem too.
-
yep. still having the same issue. I have uninstalled then reinstalled and hit update. same issue...
-
If getting accountability is worth it to you, then there is a service (used to be free, now has a small fee) that lets your AP track every activity on a computer. Might serve you temporarily until you get X3watch going on your devices. accountable2you.com 10 day free trial, then $5/month.
-
i found if you copy the address from mail or typed it in textedit and copied it from there. then paste the address instead of typing it that worked for me to add partners.
(OS Lion 10.7.3) -
I have alerted them at X3watch (and pro) that these issues are still occurring for some of you. I do not have details as DGS asked for because as I have stated before-- we are not techs here. We do not provide support for the free product (and make this known up front) but we do provide this forum for "user to user" support. Technically I probably shouldn't even post in here but it was important for me to let you know WE SEE YOU and care enough to pass the info on to someone who can hopefully resolve the issue you are experiencing.
Thanks. -
Thanks MT. Waiting patiently. Although we understand tech support is not offered, the service is greatly appreciated and, in many cases, heavily relied upon.
Has the problem been fixed for anyone using X3watch free? If not, I feel like this would not be classified as offering individualized tech support but instead reworking a now 'unusable' product. This undertaking is close to xxxchurch.com's interests as well as our own, I would imagine.
Thanks again for your time and efforts. Blessings! -
Shot in the dark: Uninstall all versions of program. Reboot if needed. Install latest copy, reboot again. Try adding partners.
If you're using the program for the first time, make sure its on the list of exceptions for your firewall.
@SuricouRaven @Jewbacca Any ideas on this thing? -
I have the same problem when trying to add partners, tried on two different Macs. I live in the Czech Republic, so not sure if there is any possible relation.
-
@eastcoast , Totally worked for me (i think)!! Thanks brother. I'll have to see if everything is working in a couple weeks.
-
Had another idea:
This is a long shot, but if you are using a web based email client such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo, rather than your own ISP's server based email program such as comcast.net, maybe the browser settings are interfering with the email system. If this describes your situation, I suggest that you:
#1) Delete all temporary internet files, history, cache, etc. (On Firefox, press Ctrl+Shift+Delete). Re-start the browser.
#2) Then, flush the dns cache in the computer>>: In the Run box, type CMD, Enter. At the command prompt, type " ipconfig /flushdns " (No parentheses and notice the space after ipconfig) Hit Enter. Verify the report that dns has been flushed. Close cmd.exe box.
My theory is that email services have been changing port numbers lately and maybe this is throwing things off. (Yeh, a novice shot in the dark.) -
On the support site (http://www.x3watch.com/techsupport.html) there is mention of a new free product set for launch in April. Does anyone know about this product? Should we hope for much in the meantime with the old product?
-
That's cool of them to put work into another free product. I'd say its worth waiting for. In the meantime, you can find a lot of useful settings and monitoring capability on k9webprotection. But it doesn't email reports. accountable2you emails reports and covers all running programs on the computer.
-
I bought a month's subscription of x3PRO to cover until this issue is settled. What a great disappointment! It is SafeEyes with a paint job! Powered by SafeEyes, governed by McAfee. It does not record on your reports when you disable x3PRO. That makes it virtually useless as an accountability tool. And the Mac version does not include the feature that filters search results (the website advertisement makes no mention of this important difference between Mac and Windows versions). Can't wait for the new free product in April being produced by the x3team directly--I'd be willing to pay for it!! Whatever you do, if your aim is accountability more than protecting others in your home, don't pay for x3PRO/SafeEyes/McAfee.
-
That sounds bizarre to me... you're saying that the pay version allows the person to turn off the reporting feature, and the free version doesn't? I get that they are actually two different products, but still doesn't seem logical. I noticed that the product for Android phones is monitoring only. Hope it works out for you. I hope you lose your interest in porn, that way you won't really need a filter. -
I agree that accountability is important, especially for those in ministry positions. We are to be above reproach, so having those who can vouch for us if need be is a good way to guard our reputation. It's similar to not spending time alone with women (if you're male and that's your fancy), so as to not "give the devil a foothold or opportunity"
What's a bit sad to me is that the Church has already forfeited this arena over a decade ago. Back then, if the local television stations, broadcast TV, said we're going to broadcast hardcore porn 24/7 from one of our stations, the Church and community leaders would all have stood as one man in opposition. But, they all gladly signed up to bring the internet-- the porn superhighway of all superhighways-- into their home and gave their children access to it. I couldn't even have a Playboy when I was a kid! I'd have to sneak a fashion magazine to look at... guys today are in porn paradise thanks to their parents, many of them Christians. They think that they can block it from their kids.... they're fooling themselves. When I was that young horny teen age even up into my young 20's and I knew I had a chance of finding and seeing porn, it was as good as done... I would be into it. The Church should have opposed their congregations from signing up with any internet service provider other than the few Christian ISP's that have filtered only service... and then insist upon further filtering and monitoring in the home. The result from this mass failure to restrict internet access is generations of porn addicted, guilt-ridden confused people... that is, if they stayed in Church. Many of them would have soon found the "cures" powerless to help them and in frustration, just left the Church concluding that there was either something wrong with the rules, their salvation or themselves.
The world, meantime, sees continual examples of hypocrites in the Church; they claim to be Christians, yet they go online... and everyone knows what guys do when they're online-- their testimony is weakened by this compromised behavior. If the apostles of the Bible went on their journey and found people hooked on porn on these boxes in their private rooms and had to deal much with them to get them free, do you think they would be surprised or shocked to see believers using these same boxes in their private rooms? The only good news in all of this is that a lot of people are either naive or accept porn as being part of normal life, because I don't think I've ever heard a sinner bring up this objection. I remember when my dad got satellite, I felt that it hurt his testimony as a man of God.
Personally, I'm not opposed to porn or me using it; I'm just making the argument for holiness that I grew up with and once reigned in the preaching ministry of the Church: "avoid the appearance of evil" "provide things honest in the sight of all men". -
Just today I tried again to install the free x3watch. This time it worked when adding my partner's email addresses. I also successfully changed the report frequency to once every week. I did nothing different from previous times, but I did have to wait at least one minute for the change to take effect. That is, at least a minute of a spinning pinwheel. Still eager to see what comes out in April, but I assume this is working. I'll post one more time to mention whether or not the reports actually go out.
-
SO Sorry, I haven't been back to this thread since it began working again.
It delivered appropriately for the last two weeks since I followed @eastcoast 's advice and uninstalled. rebooted. Reinstalled. Rebooted. It allowed me to add partners and delivered reports to them accordingly. However, as of late when I wanted to add another partner, it gives me the old dialog box "Can't add partner" "Check your internet connection and try again."
Quite frustrating. I will try again to uninstall, reinstall. -______- -
With the pro product both filter and accountability reporting should be working. Yes it is true that McAfee offers our pro version and provides the support now. With a reputable name like McAfee and the manpower they have to provide support we are quite comfortable with this. I do however find your troubles with the product troublesome DGS and am wondering if you ever contacted tech support about them and what their response was? Also curious if you removed the free product from your system before you downloaded the free trial of pro?
-
I did contact the Pro support before writing above on March 24. The word from them was as I wrote above: Mac version doesn't allow for filtering of search results (i.e. google image search turns up unfiltered thumbnails, etc.), and that they do not have the feature which logs when the program is disabled.
I can't say for sure, but I'm 99% sure I uninstalled the free x3 before installing PRO.
Finally, I just got my first weekly report after installing the free version successfully (see my entry on March 26). Seems to work fine. Tdrizzle's input on April 2nd, however, sounds ominous.
